This article walks you through what happens to your recovery phrases if you uninstall the app and how to safely restore or start fresh, depending on your device.
Wallet recovery phrase backup after uninstalling the app
Your wallet recovery phrase, sometimes called a "seed phrase," is a crucial backup for your cryptocurrency wallet, giving you access to your funds in case the app is reinstalled or accessed on a different device. Follow the instructions below based on your device to ensure your recovery phrase is managed correctly.
For iOS users
When you uninstall and reinstall the Magic Eden Mobile App on an iOS device, your recovery phrases are automatically reimported. Here’s how it works:
Automatic recovery phrase reimporting
After reinstalling the app, the wallet will automatically reimport the first recovery phrase from the previous usage and reimport the first account 1. This recovery process happens because the recovery phrase is securely stored up directly on your device and encrypted for security. Magic Eden never views or stores your recovery phrase.
Adding extra accounts
If you had additional accounts within the wallet beyond Account 1, you’ll need to add these manually after reinstalling. To do so, follow the standard process for adding software accounts to your recovery phrase. This step will re-link all previous accounts associated with your recovery phrase.
Device backup and encryption
Your recovery phrase is stored securely on your device with encryption protocols that ensure only you have access.
Starting the wallet from scratch
If you prefer to start fresh after uninstalling, follow these steps:
Navigate to Settings.
Go to Advanced.
Select Delete All Wallets.
This will effectively reset the app, allowing you to restore your wallet setup as you prefer.
For Android users
On Android, when you delete the Magic Eden app, all recovery phrases stored within the app will be permanently removed.
For browser extension (desktop) users
On browser extension, when you uninstall the Magic Eden app extension, all recovery phrases stored within the app will be permanently removed.
Manual recovery phrase backup
Before uninstalling the app, make sure to back up all recovery phrases for your wallets. Your Android device and desktop do not retain these recovery phrases once the app is uninstalled, meaning you’ll need to reimport each recovery phrase to regain access to your accounts.
It's essential to always back up all your recovery phrases to ensure your assets can be recovered under any circumstances, irrespective of the operating system.
By following these steps, you can ensure your wallet backup remains intact across devices.
