Introducing Sei on Magic Eden: A Beginner's Guide

An easy-to-follow guide to understanding the Sei network on Magic Eden’s EVM marketplace.

Updated over a month ago

What is Sei?

Sei (SEI) is a Layer 1 blockchain engineered for high-speed, scalable, and secure transactions, with a focus on trading and DeFi applications. It stands out with its parallelized Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Twin-Turbo consensus mechanism, positioning it among the fastest blockchain platforms. Built on the Cosmos SDK, Sei is backed by leading institutions and is the first parallelized EVM.

Key Features of the Sei Network:

  • Twin Turbo Consensus: This feature allows Sei to reach the fastest time to finality of any blockchain at 400ms, unlocking web2 like experiences for applications.

  • Optimistic Parallelization: This feature allows developers to unlock parallel processing for their Ethereum applications, with no additional work.

  • SeiDB: This major upgrade allows Sei to handle the much higher rate of data storage, reads and writes which become extremely important for a high performance blockchain.

  • Interoperable EVM: This allows existing developers in the Ethereum ecosystem to deploy their applications, tooling and infrastructure to Sei with no changes, while benefiting from the 100x performance improvements offered by Sei.

Adding the Network to your EVM wallet.

To add this network, simply connect to Magic Eden, select ‘Sei’ and sign the transaction to add Sei to your wallet.

Please note: Sei is not yet supported in the Magic Eden wallet.

Import Manually

If you experience any issues with the automatic connection, you can manually add Sei network. Simply follow the steps outlined below, using the provided chain information.

Wallet Addresses

Since Sei now supports two types of wallet addresses, it's important to understand their relationship.

Each Sei account is linked to a unique public key, which can generate multiple wallet addresses. Although these addresses may appear different and may be used interchangeably depending on the app, they both ultimately point to the same destination—your account. Think of it like the numeral '2' and the word 'two'; they represent the same value but are used in different contexts

  • "hex" Address: Starts with 0x and is EVM-based.

  • "bech32" Address: Starts with sei1 and is used for Sei-native functions.

Although these addresses may look different, they both link to the same underlying account. Any action taken with one address will reflect on the other.

For instance, if you deposit funds into your EVM address, you can access and use those funds through your SEI address, and vice versa. This linkage provides seamless integration between the EVM and SEI ecosystems.

To associate your EVM and SEI addresses, initiate a transaction from your EVM address, such as sending tokens to yourself within your wallet.

You can learn more at Sei’s official documentation website.

Bridging to Sei

Bridging is essential for transferring tokens across different blockchains, allowing you to use assets from various chains on the Sei network in their wrapped forms. Be sure to verify that your tokens' wrapped versions are compatible with the Sei chain.

For the best experience, visit the Sei Bridge page.

SEI Integration on Magic Eden

Before exploring SEI collections on Magic Eden, please note that only new trading volumes from the time SEI was on boarded will be reflected. Previous volumes generated on other platforms won't be included. Going forward, volume data will only account for non-Cosmos transactions, meaning only activity on Magic Eden will contribute to the volume count.

Additionally, creators of SEI collections using the EVM address will be given access to our self-served Creator Hub where creators can add more information relating to their collection - such as linking to their website/X; and changing the collection description/image.

To add/edit your collection, visit https://creators.magiceden.io/dashboard; US users will be redirected to https://creators.magiceden.us/dashboard.

At the moment, Cosmos-based wallet addresses will not have access to this.
