What is Monad?

Monad is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain built for speed while preserving both security and decentralization, and it remains fully compatible with the broader Ethereum ecosystem. MON, the network’s native token, is used for gas fees, staking to secure the chain, and aligning validators, developers, and users with the protocol’s growth.

  • EVM Compatibility – Supports Ethereum tools, contracts, and wallets.

  • High Throughput – Up to 10,000 TPS (vs ~15 on Ethereum).

  • Low Fees – Sub-cent transaction costs.

  • Fast Block Times – ~1 second finality.

  • Accessible Hardware Requirements – Efficient node operation.

How Does Monad Work?

Monad’s infrastructure is built to optimize blockchain transaction processing. Unlike traditional EVM chains, Monad employs a custom EVM architecture that enhances performance by utilizing multiple virtual machines to handle transactions more efficiently.

While the technical details remain undisclosed, Monad promises full compatibility with Ethereum’s developer tooling, wallets, and analytics/indexing services. This means both users and developers can transition smoothly without adopting new standards.

Before Mainnet, there was Testnet.

Since its launch on February 19, 2025, Monad testnet quickly became one of the most active in the Layer-1 ecosystem, showing rapid growth in transactions, users, and validators. In its first 10 days, it processed over 130 million transactions, averaged 0.5-second block times, and onboarded nearly 4 million user accounts.

On Magic Eden, thousands of collections were created and many items collected, growing alongside the network’s development.
