This article walks you through what happens to your seed phrases if you uninstall the app and how to safely restore or start fresh, depending on your device.
Wallet seed phrase backup after uninstalling the app
Your wallet seed phrase, sometimes called a "recovery phrase," is a crucial backup for your cryptocurrency wallet, giving you access to your funds in case the app is reinstalled or accessed on a different device. Follow the instructions below based on your device to ensure your seed phrase is managed correctly.
For iOS users
When you uninstall and reinstall the Magic Eden Mobile App on an iOS device, your seed phrases are automatically reimported. Here’s how it works:
Automatic seed phrase recovery
After reinstalling the app, the wallet will automatically recover the first account (Account 1) from each recovery phrase used previously. This recovery process happens because the seed phrase is backed up directly on your device and encrypted for security.
Adding extra accounts
If you had additional accounts within the wallet beyond Account 1, you’ll need to add these manually after reinstalling. To do so, follow the standard process for adding software accounts to your recovery phrase. This step will re-link all previous accounts associated with your seed phrase.
Device backup and encryption
Your seed phrase is stored securely on your device with encryption protocols that ensure only you have access.
Starting the wallet from scratch
If you prefer to start fresh after uninstalling, follow these steps:
Click on Accounts in the app.
Tap the Settings/Gear icon.
Go to Advanced.
Select Delete All Wallets.
This will effectively reset the app, allowing you to restore your wallet setup as you prefer.
For Android users
On Android, when you delete the Magic Eden Mobile App, all seed phrases stored within the app will be permanently removed. Here’s what you need to know:
Manual seed phrase backup
Before uninstalling the app, make sure to back up all recovery phrases for your wallets. Android does not retain these phrases once the app is deleted, meaning you’ll need to reimport each recovery phrase to regain access to your accounts after reinstalling the app.
It's essential to always back up all your seed phrases to ensure your assets can be recovered under any circumstances, irrespective of the operating system.
By following these steps, you can ensure your wallet backup remains intact across both iOS and Android devices.
